Singapore Maker Extravaganza
October 18 @ 9:00 am - October 20 @ 6:00 pm
Singapore Maker Extravaganza showcases the amazing work of all kinds and ages of makers—anyone who is embracing the do-it-yourself (or do-it-together) spirit and wants to share their accomplishments with an appreciative audience. This year, Singapore Maker Extravaganza will be themed on Sustainable Development Goals laid out by the United Nations.
Admiralty Secondary School is a STEM ALP (Applied Learning Programme) school. All her Sec One and Two students apply Design Thinking and STEM (Arduino; Andee) to ideate and prototype solutions for elderly. Through these Code-for-Cause projects; students envision a cosy home environment where the elderly can lead meaningful independent lives. Their ideas are expressed through free form projects; where they discuss the profile of the elderly persona they want to design their solution for. As part of the DT iterative process; they select appropriate STEM components eg buzzer; LED; LDR to connect to Arduino; Andee and breadboard; to meet the needs of the elderly persona they are designing for.
Our Sustainable Development Goal(s)
Good health and Well being
Students apply STEM to design solutions for their projects where they apply Arduino; Andee; breadboard; some LEDs; resistors (from engineering). They apply knowledge of electrical circuity (from science); have a good idea of scale as they needed to be real world in their solutioning (from mathematics) and then beautify their paper prototypes through colours and aesthetics (from art)
